Album Update #1

I want to share a little about the fundraiser, which felt like a Sisyphean feat for sure.
I had no intention of designing and launching a fundraiser, but life has a funny way of being right on time for exactly what’s next. I followed a lot of ‘breadcrumbs’ over the course of several years (mostly in the form of friends telling me to record again,) and I finally felt ready.

The back-end of a Kickstarter is so nuanced, and basically was a full time job to set up. I get easily discouraged if I’m faced with something I don’t know how to do - perfectly - right off the bat (not ideal, I know,) so showing up to the screen everyday felt very daunting. Getting over the perfectionism hurdle was step one.
Steps 2 through 17,982 were developing the rewards and pricing tiers, shooting and editing the informational videos, embedding said videos into the Kickstarter platform, researching and fleshing out the budget, writing down the risks, mapping out a timeline, MEETING THE RECORDING ENGINEER! <— kind of an important step there, and THEN the prelaunch to start getting the word out.
From there, it was creating videos and content for social media, dozens of personalized messages each day (which I think was my favorite but scariest part - reaching out to you individually and getting to connect one on one,) and obsessively checking the Kickstarter page for updates. It was an around-the-clock endeavor and I have to admit that I’m pretty proud of myself for having the energy and audacity to boldly go where so many other musicians have gone before :)

I messaged people individually and the resonance of support was so heartening and encouraging. Some folks saw my posts on social media and donated from there, while some folks I haven’t seen or spoken to in years. It was an absolute and surreal delight (and relief) to see the support mounting, and finally, the goal achieved.

In about a week I’ll be returning to the studio to continue recording. We’ve already started on one song and Matt’s sonic additions are absolutely stunning/exciting/motivating/MOVING. I can’t wait for you to hear them.

The theme of this moment seems to be ‘sharing.’ I really enjoy sharing this journey with you and I hope you’ll stick around for the ride.

With heart,

Allison
