Album Update X - Medicine
Welcome to this here 10th album update. I’m so glad you’re here.
Want to know something incredible? I’ve got one more song to record and I’ve GOT IT. I’ve got the song.
It came to me last November during a spirited walk through the woods, but was not quite done at that time. I recently revisited the same trail and asked the forest for help and inspiration. Specifically, I asked Her if there was anything else She wanted me to know.
Turns out, an abundance of ideas and lyrics came forth along with the crunch crunch muck muck rhythm of my boots padding along snow, ice, and mud. I left the forest full of gratitude, relief, joy, and the sadness of knowing how quickly I’ll forget the healing power of the trees once I jump back into the daily grind.
The song is called ‘Medicine,’ and not only is it the last song to record, but I think I want it to be the last song on the EP itself.
I’m envisioning lush and coaxing sound qualities in the beginning to invite listeners into the song’s landscape. There is accompanying rhythmic guitar already written, and I plan to add piano parts, vocal harmonies, and a slew of other instruments that my brilliant producer, Matt, will come up with.
My gears are also turning regarding the EP’s title, the cover art, and merch. Chris has his screen-printing press up and running which is hella fu***ng awesome, and we’re exploring tote bags, ink colors and other specs. I’m staring to brainstorm a release show, specifically two release shows, one in the Upper Valley and one in the Burlington area. I also want to build a band, take this show on the road, invite any and all to listen to these song babies, and eventually shake hands with Jimmy Fallon on the Tonight Show. :)
Coming back to Earth though, I’m driving down to the studio THIS weekend for the recording of the last song, AND, to be joined by my lovely song sisters, Lisa Piccirillo and Jes Raymond, who will add harmony to ‘Infatuation.’ I am geeking out SO hard to be in the studio with these incredible women. There is fire in my belly to gather and make sweet music with them. That they are so eager to share their talents on this record fills me with so much adoration and awe.
Y’all, ‘Infatuation’ has totally turned into a Chicago-esque musical number and its so much fun. We re-recorded the vocals during my last studio visit and I really turned on the burners with that one. Hell ya.
I could write here for days but I’ll leave it there for now.
I so appreciate your attention and encouragement through this process. These updates are fun to write, and keep me connected with you on this journey.
With heart,
Allison
